www.ruralfuturesconference.org
This is a conference
concerning people who live and dwell in rural areas, and as such is
particularly relevant both to those employed in the processes of rural
development, and to academics engaged in studying those processes. Each of
the words in the title of this conference is open to many interpretations,
and our aim is to offer an event which encourages and celebrates that
multiplicity in the interests of creative, and potentially exciting,
analysis of rural life in the 21st century.

RURAL FORUM 2005
DATES ANNOUNCED
Manitoba's 13th annual
Rural Forum will take place April 28 to 30, 2005, at
the Keystone Centre in Brandon, Agriculture, Food and Rural
Initiatives
Minister Rosann Wowchuk announced today.
"Networking
opportunities like those presented at Rural Forum are vital as
rural and northern communities continue to seek new economic
development
opportunities to remain vibrant and sustainable," said
Wowchuk. "Rural
Forum provides a venue where community and business leaders
can gain new
knowledge and insights from seminars, workshops and open
forums that can
help spark new ideas and partnerships necessary for the
continued growth of
our rural economy."
Rural Forum also
provides ample opportunity for Manitoba families to enjoy a
variety of activities including hundreds of community,
cultural and business
exhibits, a food court featuring Manitoba eateries, a one-day
craft show and
Manitoba entertainment.
In conjunction with
Rural Forum, Manitoba Education, Citizenship, and Youth
will hold a two-day youth conference on April 28 and 29,
called Youth
Citizenship in Action! The first day of the conference will
include
workshops that demonstrate a wide range of citizenship
activities to engage
Manitoba youth. The second day will feature the Youth Town
Hall with
provincial ministers, which has become a regular feature of
the rural forum.
"The theme Youth
Citizenship in Action acknowledges the importance of
preparing our youth to be the leaders of tomorrow and
considers the issue of
youth retention in rural and northern communities," said
Education,
Citizenship and Youth Minister Peter Bjornson. "The Youth
Town Hall is one
aspect of the youth forum where our young people can speak
openly about
their schools and their communities. I look forward to
welcoming all
Manitoban youth to participate in this and other forum
activities."
Rural Forum is an
annual community economic development conference and
tradeshow managed in partnership by Manitoba Agriculture,
Food and Rural
Initiatives and more than 40 public and private sector
partners.
