NRE Link to the

Market Towns Research
at the University of Plymouth

Plymouth, England

Professor Andrew Errington (aerrington@plymouth.ac.uk) of the University of Plymouth in South West England first encountered the Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation at the October 1996 Conference on Rural Employment in Coaticook, Quebec. Recognising kindred spirits he maintained contact and, during a visit to Montreal in July 1997, discovered many similarities between the approach and interests of his Market Towns Research group and the NRE project. As these two independent research initiatives began to bear fruit it seemed sensible to provide a link between them through this web-site.

These link pages contain:

Research Briefing: a brief overview of current research activities by the Market Towns Research Group at the University of Plymouth, England.

Sample reports from the baseline studies. These provide profiles of Bude - a seaside town and holiday resort in North Cornwall - and Liskeard - a somewhat larger town 28 miles west of Plymouth.

Datasets (in SPSS format) for Bude and Liskeard. We encourage you to download these data and use them, particularly if you are seeking to compare these towns with others that you are studying, but please note the requirements and conditions on the page describing the data.

Sample conference papers and articles based on the Market Towns research (soon).
